Toilet or not

Wg, thought I'd try a plumbing post for a change. Im second owner of my house. Previous owner built a laundry room in basement. On one wall he ran a cold water line,hot waterline and drain. I installed laundry tub in this location. However about 4 feet away on same wall is another cold water line coming out of finished drywall capped off with shutoff valve. About 6 inches from it at same level ( 12 inches above concrete floor) is black plastic drain pipe 2 1/2" OD best I can tell , laundry tub drain tees into this drain then goes down into concrete. It also is teed into wall and capped. Looks like a toilet setup. But I think this is really a clean out from original construction. Think maybe previous owner not any better plumber than me. Am I missing something? Wouldnt mind being first person on the block to have throne in laundry room ..RL

I think 2.5" is too small for a toilet. It sounds like an improperly installed vent for the sink. It should have continued up and not been capped unless it is not really a cap. Could it be a studor vent.

Going to do a little investigation by removing some sheet rock and have decided to redo laundry room ( it is pretty poorly done anyway) . You are right 2 1/2" is to small for toilet. I will let you know what I find. Any other ideas about what this other water line might have been intended for would be appreciated.....RL

If it has a trap in the pipe below the outlet coming through the floor it probably is a floor drain designed to catch overflowing equipment from laundry before it ruins carpet in surrounding rooms. Many times a pan is installed under a washer that is connected to a drain. This is required in second floor laundry set ups. Sounds like a floor drain to me.

Well guys got some drywall off and it is a 2" Sch.40 DWV vented to the roof tying in to my kitchen sink vent. It is also serving as my laundry tub drain as mentioned best I can tell before I put the tub in, it had nothing else on it. Just came out of basement floor and went to the roof. I said it was capped that is probably wrong terminology it has a tee with screw in plug about 12" above floor.The laundry tub drain tees in about 3" above the plug. Sorry if I used wrong identification still trying to keep grounded,grounding,
ground, bonded etc....straight, that Wg has been drilling in my head for a month. Still have more to tear out so who knows what Ill find. Anyway pretty much down to remodel job from here out. If something seems too strange let me know. Might as well tell you guys a joke since this is pretty much a done deal.... A fellow hired on to the railroad to be a signalman. After about 6 months he graduated and his first day on the job his foreman comes up to him and says ok son you got two trains coming head on. One is coming from the north and one from the south what are ya going to do? Thats easy said the new signalman I'm going to run over there to the master control panel push the green switching button for the train coming from the south and it will switch tracks. Electricity is out, now what are you going to do, said the foreman? Ok, said the signalman, I'm going to run down the tracks over there to the manual switch and switch the south train manually. Broken said the foreman, now what ya going to do? Well said the signalman I'm going to run over to the emergency phone break out the glass call the controll tower and have them radio the trains to stop. The phones out of order now what are you going to do? The signalman thought for a second and said, I'm going to run across the tracks over there, go through the gate, go in Tom's Tavern and call my uncle Leo. Why in the world are you going to call your uncle Leo, said the foreman. The signalman looked at his foreman and said "uncle Leo ain't never seen a train crash." ......

Yep sounded like a done deal ha ha

What you discribe leads me to believe the plumber installed a cleanout for your drain. If the drain was plugged chances are it has no trap to seal methane gas from entering your home. Keep the plug in that cleanout to keep gases out of your home.
