Default necessary to upgrade supply to 3/4 from 1/2?

WHile I have my cieling open, I am debating if I should bother to upgrade my hot/cold supply lines to 3/4 inch. Currently my service is 1/2 from the city, which is why my pressure is not great, but it will be upgraded soon. From where the service enters the house, it has already been upgraded to 3/4, but only until where it splits to go to each end of the house. The length in question services main kitchen, bsmt kitchen, bsmt bathroom, and outdoor hoses. I don't have access right to each fixture, but would be replacing about 15 feet of pipe up to where it splits to go to bsmt kitchen sink, and then main kitchen/bsmt bathroom and outdoor hoses. After this split it would have to remain 1/2 to all but bsmt kitchen. Will I see any improvement upgrading this section, or is it not worth it since I cannot get right to each fixture? Thx for suggestions.

The piping feeding more than one grouping such as kitchen grouping and bath grouping is considered a feeder. The piping serving that grouping itself is considered as a branch. Any pipining serving more than one area is considered as a feeder pipe.

I suggest you upgrade from outside all piping to be considered as grouping to 3/4". I would not worry about that part of a 1/2" supply line serving only one grouping such as a kitchen or bathroom.

I would install 3/4" supply feeders anywhere that water supplies more than one area.

Remember if you leave one short piece of 1/2" as a feeder anywhere in that feeder from outside to point of split to different grouping then you waisted your time. The short 1/2" pipe is much like using a smaller spoon from a big bowl to feed your mouth. ONly the amount of water that can flow through that short piece of 1/2" pipe you left in the feeder will flow trough the biggers water lines as a restricted flow same as if it all was 1/2".

Good Luck
