Default well pump running more than normal

We have a well and septic system and I noticed yesterday that when the toilet is flushed the well pump runs 5 or 6 times during the tank re-fill. I went and watched the gauge on the pressure tank and the pressure would drop from 65 to 50 (or the set-point) in a matter of seconds and then build pressure just as quickly. I don't think this is normal. I am assuming it has something to do with the pressure tank.

Any help would be appreciated

You are right on the money. YOu have two items that can cause what you report as your problem. A bad check valve that keeps water from flowing backwards back into the well when the pump is shut off or a pressure tank that needs replaced. If your tioiet fills and shuts off and the pump then shuts off and stays off then replace your pressure tank. If the toilet shuts off and the pump shuts off and the pump restarts without any water being ran then replace your check valve.

Hope this helps
