Default Old to newer

I am not sure how to do this but here goes. I have a naked light with no covering fixture in a small room. I wish to change it to a fixture that has two light bulbs. My Problem: There are two black wires and two white wires with a ground wire. Do I hook both black wires to the black wire in the old frame and both white wires to the white wire in the old frame or do I somehow hook all this in some sort of series?? I have been told to just take the two black and the two white lines to the old black and old white wire in the old frame and twist all the blacks and all the whites together and put the ground where it goes to ground the whole fixture.
Thanks

If you old fixture is still connected then note the wires connected to each of the two connections on that old fixture. Leave the wire nuts untouched. Connect the new light fixture matching the wires that were connected to the old fixture.

If you have removed all the wire nuts and have all the wires disconnected then we need to discover what these sets of wires go to whether it be power in and power out or switch leg in and switch leg out or power in and switch leg out.

Tell us did you take all the wires loose or is the old fixture still connected? If the old fixture is still connected then you have an easy switch. If you disconnected all the wires in that box and have removed the old fixture then we are going to have to do some research where these wires go.

If you have removed the old fixture and taken loose all the wires then look tell me how many switches control this light and how many wire cables enter each switch box. Also tell me if this switch system controls more than one light fixture.

Curious

Sir, The old light fixture is still attached to the ceiling and nothing has been done with it. The confusion came when I realized that my wife bought a two bulb fixture that has two sets (one blach and one white wire) and I am sure that when I take the fixture down that is now there I will have only one set of wires.
So the question?? Do I take all the black wires and join them together and all the white wires and join them together and then make sure the ground is properly grounded or is it necessary to figure out how to wire all the sets is series??

The two black wires of the light fixture should connect to the black wire that the old fixture' black wire is connected to. Some older fixtures do not have color changes in that old fixture. Many will have two wires coming from that old fixture that are the same color. If you find this then connect the two black wires of the new fixture to the one black wire coming from the house wiring that is connected to the old fixture.

The two white wires of the new fixture should connect to the white wire that is coming from the house to the old fixture wires.

Do not remove any wire nuts except the wire nuts connected to the two insulated fixture wires of hte old fixture. This way we won't have to back trace the house wiring. The two existing insulated house wires black and white most likely connected to that old fixture's one black hot wire and one white wire will be the two insulated wires connecting to the new fixture. Difference being you have two black wires and two white wires in the new fixture and only one black and white wire coming from the old fixture. Just keep the two black wires of the new fixture together connected to the one house black wire.

Let us know how you come out and good luck
