Default refrigerator and freezer on same circuit

#802: refrigerator and freezer on same circuit Author: mh, Posted: Fri Dec 12, 2003 10:42 pm
My refrigerator is on a dedicated circuit (no other loads) wired with #12 awg on a 20 amp breaker. I want to plug a small freezer in the same outlet. Can this cause any problems if both units start simultaneously(voltage drop etc.) the frige full load amps is 6.5 and the freezer draws 1.3 amps

This shouldn't be a problem at all. Even if both were 7 amp loads, the odds of them starting at exactly the same time are small. Two 7 amp loads would be about all you'd want on this circuit unless the cable is quite short.
