Default Kenmore washer 110 bad brake or clutch??

My Kenmore 100 series washer: At times would not drain out all the water. A couple of times it would not go into spin cycle I grabbed the drum by hand, rotated it and then the machine would go into a spin.

Last night the machine would not go into the spin cycle at all.

Here is what I have tested and checked; there are no obstructions between the tub and outer case. The door switch checked out ok. After removing the outer shell of the machine, I jumpered the door switch and plugged it in. Turned the power on and activated the spin cycle to see if the clutch would spin, the clutch did spin and now the tub spins, but seems slow, never getting up to high speed.

I removed the motor, transmission and pump; they are not obstructed and spin freely. The motor coupling looks fine as well. I am down to the clutch and brake assembly. If I hold the brake disengaging arm and turn it counter clockwise the tub does spin freely.

I do not know if it is the clutch getting week and it is not strong enough to disengage the brake, or if it is the brake assembly itself... Also do any of these parts need to be greased???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

http://www.applianceaid.com/direct-nospin.html Some common no spin trouble makers.

A weak clutch is more common.

Spin tube yes, none of the clutch or brake parts.
