Default Wiring a USB to micro-b USB

Hi,

I am trying to make a cell phone Data cable out of a regular USB wire and a Micro-B USB wire.

I am stuck because the micro-b USB wire has a pink (red(+)?) wire, and a green wire (ground?). Which is pretty straight forward I'm sure.

But the USB wire has gray, yellow, blue, and red.

I do not know what the gray, yellow, and blue wires are. I have looked up a lot of different color coding charts online but I have not yet been able to find a combination of these colors so I have no idea which of the 4 wires to connect to my 2 micro-b USB wires.

Some places say that green is data out and some say it is ground. Some say that gray is ground and others say gray is positive.

Can someone please help me out here?

Thanks.

I would get a pre made cable. You are going to have problems with shielding which will slow data rates and can corrupt data. Corrupt data may damage a system file on your phone and brick it. If you accidently short +5V to ground you may blow out your usb port.

Go to a camera shop, chances are they have a box of these cables sitting around somewhere. The cable itself tends to be hard to find retail. There are usb adaptor kits which has a spring coiled cable and a few adaptors that plug into the ends to make any kind of cable you want. Bulky and pricy but it works.

Dont pay too much attention to wire colors since one of those cables is not following the standard. Follow the pinouts. You may need a DMM to trace wires.

These may help

Hey I really appreciate you getting back to me about that. I figured I wouldn't be able to find that cable somewhere locally, just because from my experience local places kind of suck in the department of carrying a large assortment of different kinds of data cables like that aside from having a mini-usb cord for printers. I never thought of a camera shop only because I guess I was only thinking about using it for a cell phone.

Really appreciate it, I guess I'm just going to have to go get one. Recently because of how things are going economically in the United States I don't feel so inclined to be leaving my house for things I don't really need, If you understand where I'm coming from.

Thanks again.

If you are just pulling pictures off the phone, look to see if it has a micro SD card slot. often you can copy the pictures or whatever to the card and then stick it in a computer via an adaptor. Still gotta buy something though. Micro USB and micro SD arent going away anytime soon though Good luck
