Hi,

Quote:

*If* I have read this correctly, nope...a stuck closed cold/temp control keeping the refrigerator running all the time does not prevent the defrost cycle from working.

Yes I agree, its sounds like it's running all the time causing it to freeze up all the time and not defrost properly when the defrost timer switches in.

Certainly would make it work longer and/or harder, but that is not what was asked...

What does JMO! mean? I'm not familiar with that term.

On some models, when the defrost cycle kicks in (typically lasts an hour) the compressor will be switched off even if the cold control was stuck on.

Yes I can see where your coming from, I don't know which model mero2000 was refering to. So I was refering to a hot gas defrost that needs the compressor to run to maintain the the low side to heat up. Which made me think the bypass sol valve might be knacked along with the stat causing it to freeze up.

I assume you guys are referring to the electric defrost system.

Very rare to find a hot gas defrost full sized refrigerator here any more. I saw many 20-25+ years ago.

Yes I know that most new models have electric defrost, it's just I thought he said it was an old fridge.

There are at least 6 units that I service over here that must be at least 25 years old that still have R12 in them, but they're for commercial use. I may have put 2+2 together and made 5.

Oh well never mind.
