Default 12 Volt lights - not CSA approved

I purchased some indoor step lights (from the US) for the house I am building (in Alberta). Now the electrician is telling me he cant install them because they are not CSA certified. It turns out they are not UL certified either although "the components, sockets, wiring are all UL certified"

My issue is that we have cut the holes in the walnut staircase ($$$$) for the lights and so although the light company will let me return the lights I dont think I will find alternative CSA approved ones that are the same size....

Of course my option is to just wait until after the electrical inspection and install them myself. But I would rather stay somewhat legal to code.

I read a tantalizing post on this site that indicates I can use a Class 2 transformer/s less than 100 W with non approved lights. Can someone point me to a specific code reference that allows this?

Or could I in some way put a CSA approved fitting inside the boxes I have purchased (they are quite large - around 9"x3" so something like an LED puck would fit inside.)

Or of course any other ideas would be much appreciated

Default LED lights

Hi I'm not from Alberta, but the code in Canada section 16-222 allows some class 2 wiring to be un-approved. The exception is lighting, electromedical, hazardous location parts and thermostats incorpporating heat anticipators. This may be amended in Alberta. Anyone from Alberta that could fill us in here?...
