Thread: Smoke detector installation for high ceilings

Default Smoke detector installation for high ceilings

    Hello,

I have a query concerning installation of a smoke detector in area of 16' high ceilings. Would the same installation requirements be applicable as for regular 7' ceilings or are they required / preferred to be wall mount at lower heights to allow for accurate smoke detection?

    Thank you.

Smoke rises, you want the detectors up high, but you need to avoid dead air zones. (near wall/ceiling corners and the peaks of vaulted ceilings.)

Mounting it low would add delay if smoke entered from the other side of the room. It would fill in downwards from the ceiling. By the time it reached the detector, exits could be blocked.

Your real challenge will be reaching it to change the battery.
