Thread: Can I use white PVC in combination with grey PVC?

Default Can I use white PVC in combination with grey PVC?

Silly question I know, but I can't think of any neat way to what I need to do...

I will have 2 conduits running from my house to my detached garage for phone, cable, ethernet and security. Since they originate from 2 different locations (attached garage and basement), I'd like to intersect them using a white pvc "wye". This would save me from having to connect up another LB at the detached garage and would look much nicer. I don't think I would have any problems fishing through it, but are the 2 PVC's compatible with each other as far as glue is concerned? These conduits will not have to get inspected, so code shouldn't be an issue either.

    Any thoughts?

Well, technically the code does cover these low voltage systems. When you're running them in conduit, all the same rules as the line voltage stuff apply. Yes, the grey PVC conduit and the white plumber's fittings will glue up just fine. You say that you won't have any trouble fishing this wye? I fully support a man's right to do things at his own house wrong if he wants to. What I can say is that I wouldn't do it this way. Will any one of these two conduits accomodate the necessary cabling, leaving the other as a future spare?

One could accomodate everything (the one from the basement). The problem is one originates from the attached garage (RG6 and phone) and one originates from the basement (security and ethernet). There's no easy way to get from the attached garage to the basement.

    What would you suggest?

I was afraid you were going to say that.
