Thread: Quantum 6.0 B&S Engine won't stay running!

Default Quantum 6.0 B&S Engine won't stay running!

Ok, yesterday I started my Pressure washer and started going to town. After about 20 minutes, it shut off. I restarted it and it went about another 12 minutes. I kept doing this until finally, it would not stay running. So far, I have replaced the spark plug (correctly gapped), air filter, new(fresh) gas. I took the carb off and totally cleaned it with carb cleaner. Now, it will only start with starting fluid and won't stay running. I have looked at the gas cap to see if there may be any debris in it, but it is clear. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

If it starts with fluid then you have spark. Problem must be fuel supply. Keep looikng at fuel supply for the problem.

Could also be compression issue. Do you have a way to test compression? Is there oil in the engine?

The oil is fine, fresh and new. I do not have a compression tester, however, this morning I went to try to start it and it will crank over and puffs of white smoke are coming out the exhaust. I think it is still a fuel issue...Your thoughts?

Do you have spark? I know you put in a new plug, but whos to say it's not faulty? A compression test is a good idea, however if I had more info re engine I maybe able to pin point the problem better.

white smoke implies oil is some how getting into the combustion process.
Check your oil level to make sure gas has not gone down into the crank case diluting the oil. The additional liquid in the crankcase will make starting difficult.

If you post the Model, Type, and Code numbers off of the engine, Mj or I may be able to provide more info.
