Thread: Romex Staples

    Question Romex Staples

How 'tight' do you tack the staples at the box or along the run?

The cable must be secured at the box and supported after that. With that thought in mind, I tap the staple snug at the box and somewhat loose to just touching along the run of the cable. Overdriven staples are BIG trouble down the road. If you have some reservations, there are commercially available insulated staples for NM cable that may ease your mind. I have observed that most professional electricians use the regular uninsulated cable staples. Sometimes I give my helpers the insulated staples to use if I have some doubt about how carefully they drive staples.
