    Default neutral/hot pigtails...

are pigtails required or can i use the plug for the "splice"? My neutrals are always pigtailed when a shared circuit is concerned.
also does a pigtail count as a conductor when box fill is being calculated?

I belive that if you have only two wires in and two wires out that pigtails on the neutral and hot are not required. Bonding conductors require a pigtail.

    Pigtails are not required.
A conductor of which no part leaves the box shall not be counted. That would be pigtails, but wire nuts are counted.
