This problem has been going on for 2 years. While on a call, every so often I experience an interuption where the conversation gets interuptted and the phone goes silent for a brief moment. The person at the other end of the call hears a beep tone that sounds like a low battery in a smoke alarm. There are no custom calling features on the line. The telephone Company has changed out their entire network facilities to my home. The problem is still occurring. All telephone equipment in my home has been replaced. Currently there is only one telephone plugged into the kitchen wall jack. The other inside wiring has been temporarly disconnected to see if the problem is inside my condo. I live in a condo and am on the 2nd floor. I have one 3 pair inside wire that feeds to the telephone network terminal closet from my kitchen outlet. The telephone company was out yesterday and removed 3 radio/noise supressors from 3 of my telephone jacks. The kitchen was re-modeled several years ago. Has anyone heard of this problem occurring before? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have 2 telephone numbers at my condo. The problem is with line one. The telephone company says that both lines have perfect telephone line tests.

Does there seem to be a pattern to this? Morning/afternoon/evening? Outside temperature? Humid/dry? Rainy/Sunny? My thoughts wander more towards open sheath/split pair types of problems.

hmm. i can only think of 3 things which may be causing your problem. its possible but unlikely there is a problem on the actual wiring of your home or the network... if the tech was telling you the truth and tested a perfect line.
60% likely - something in your home is causing the problem: burglar alarm, answering machine, dish receiver... any one item plugged into the jack could be casuing this beep on all connected sets. to be 100% positive, unplug everything in your home connected to the telephone wiring and use one landline telephone. if the problem repeats, you know for a fact that the problem is not in your home. if it doesnt, you have a clue it might be your equipment.
35% likely - your telephone line works through a pair gain system. this means your dial tone leaves the central office on a multiplexed line, and then gets translated somewhere near your home at a remote site to an analog signal, which connects to your jacks. the channel unit that converts this signal from digital to analog is sometimes faulty, and can cause your exact symptoms.
ps. i doubt they have changed out the entire network facilities to your home. most likely, especially if its pair gain, they just changed the wire from the remote site to your home.
5% likely - the OE(office equipment) in the central office where your dial tone originates is faulty, also something which i have witnessed cause your ails.
.0001% - you are hearing call waiting beep in.
my percentages may be off, but im just guessing.

The call waiting tone is the first thing that popped into my head also.
To rule that out as a possibility try to answer it as if you did have call waiting to see what happens.
I know it sounds strange but you have to remember, CO switches are really nothing more than a giant computer that handles telephone calls.
You may be getting a free feature.:D
