driveway. I looked in the IRC and it doesn't address fuel oil tanks under a driveway. Does any one know what depth or other requirements for that.

If it doesn't address tanks under a driveway, then they are permitted. The code is permissive in that respect. If it doesn't say you can't put one there, then you may. The section that applies is M2201.3. It requires that the tank be covered with at least a foot of earth. Remember that gas station tanks are under the pavement. They aren't especially deep. Perhaps 3 feet from the top of the tank to the pavement.

Thank you for your valued input, I thought that was the case. An inspector from another forum said use the IFC. My understanding is that is the commercial code. I'll probably put three foot of cover over it due to frost and the driveway issue.

Perhaps the fuel gas code would have something to say on the matter, but you'd be hard pressed to show where that code has the force of law in very many places.
