View Full Version : Failing GFI outlets

Yesterday the GFI outlet in the guest bathroom stopped working. It has power coming to it, but the outlet wouldn't work. This morning we noticed the one in our bathroom stopped working as well. They are on different circuit breakers. These were purchased at Lowes so they should be somewhat reputable and they've worked fine for 8-9 months. We had pretty bad storms Monday and Tuesday but I don't think their was a strike on our block. The power was out briefly (less than a few seconds) during the storm. Would a power outage or a power line strike cause them to fail? It doesn't seem to have affected the ones in the kitchen. Are they all going to fail?

Help!
Thanks,
Dan

Hey, they are electronic inside, so they do fail. Power spikes have been known to ruin them. The fact that you got them at Lowe's causes me to know that your GFCI's were of the lowest possible quality. Among GFCI's in current manufacture, Pass and Seymour Trademaster GFCI's are known to be the highest quality.
