I realize a tent would not hold cool air very long but I was wondering if there was such a thing.

I have never heard of one. There are tent heaters available but have never heard of a tent cooler. Any cooler even if it existed would its effect almost as soon as its turned off.

Suck it up! dont camp in the summer :D

Ive seen some decent battery powered fans. Probably the best you will get.

The best thing to do is to pitch your tent so that if there are any breezes they can blow freely through the tent if you have hte windows and doors open.

If you have flexibility in the campsite and there are trees, select your location so that your area is shady during the times of the day that you will be in it.

Only other word I have on this subject is Winnabego.

Yes, the military uses tent coolers. They are basically militarized versions of Trane's packaged "mobile home air conditioners". They are readily available at army surplus stores. Unless you happen to be camping with an extra truck to tow the air conditioner, it's not really something to consider.

There are a lot of portable AC's now for apartments. I suppose you could use one in a tent if you have 120V power. Here's some:

Note that you need a way to get the hot air out of the tent, so you'll need some kind of flex pipe or perhaps back the thing against a screen window.

This hardly seems like camping, but perhaps it will work. If enough people get the same idea, I think tent sites with power are going to start costing way more.

Those potrrable air cond. at that link are enough to cool down a whole floor of a house, it has the capacity to turn a tent into a freezer. Also I wonder if these portable air cond. have a humidity tray at the bottom which needs to be emptied as it gets full ?

I really think it is very impratical for use in a tent. Tents / camping is usually used by people who love camping / ruffing it / and because it is the cheapest way to travel. If you want the luxury of home, don't camp.

You don't need any AC. Just have lots of beer!

I bet the tent air conditioners work very well now.. At least in the northern half of the US.

No joke. I was wearing my winter coat this morning, until about noon. I hate cold weather. I also hate hot weather. Interesting occupation I've picked, huh.

In Ohio we call this "run the heat and the AC in your car on the same day" season.

Uh-huh... this is the time of the year where I get dozens of panicked phonecalls from people who forget to flick the little switch on their thermostat from cooling to heating.

I was in Myrtle Beach last summer during the hottest week of the year. I took a 10,000 btu window unit and placed it on a crate by the tent and taped it to the second tent entrance.

It may not have cooled the tent, but the cold air blowing on us made it comfortable to sleep. I noticed others in the campground with various setups through windows and doors on their tents.

What ever happened to roughing it...:hmmmm:
That is funny, but this is a reason I don't do much camping. Log cabins work just fine.

We use Ac units for our tents but they draw so much power we usually have a 30k gen run 2 of them and can only put a couple more circuits for about 80% draw. So, my point is, the ones we use are pretty big but they do sure feel good. :)

Here is one that I found that seems to be pretty neat.

camp near a water body. even at night with onshore effect, the breeze should help.
