I am putting a bathroom in the basement of my 1 year old home. The drains were roughed in for the bathroom without an actual plan for what the room would eventually look like. What I now have is a 4 inch pipe from the floor, which I presume is for the toilet. Directly across, about 8.5 feet away, is a square boxed out in the concrete, which I presume is where a stub out is buried for the shower. About 6 feet from there, is 2 inch pipe, where I plan to install the sink. The main drain line exits the house approximately 6 feet from where the shower stub out is, (1pproximately 15 feet from toilet drain).

My questions are:
1) Since I'm going to install a tub, not a shower, I'm guessing I need to knock out some concrete from where the stub out is to where the tub drain will be, correct?
2) I assume I need to vent tub and the sink, which I can tie together and run horizontally to the existing vent stack approximately 30 feet away as long as I extend the vent high enough above the fixtures, and maintain the necessary rise of a quarter inch per 10 feet, but do I also need to vent the toilet?
3) If I need to vent the toilet, what's the best way to go about this?

1) Not sure why you would need to knock out concrete to install a tub instead of a shower. The stub out should already be trapped below floor level and it should only be a matter of connecting the tub drain to the existing pipe when installing the tub.

2)Code required that the roughed in work already be tied into the existing vent system. There should be no need to do any vent work.

3)The toilet will already be vented through the sink/shower/tub vents

It appears all you need to do with the rough in is hook up your fixtures with no additional work.

Thanks for the advice. You saved me a ton of unecesarry work on the venting! As for the tub, I didn't think there would be enough clearance to run the pipe from the drain on the end of the tub to the existing stub without knocking out the concrete.

Thanks again for the help. I did have to knock out approximately 3 feet of concrete to move the drain to the end of the tub. Not as difficult as I had expected. The tub is now installed and the tiling has begun!

I have a sink & toilet roughout in my basement. I have no way to vent the toilet without digging concrete, so assumed it must be vented. The sink stack I have no idea -- is it possible to tell if it's vented somehow? I was planning to install an Air Intake Vent up the bathroom wall, then out through the back of the wall into the mechanical room about chest high. I'd rather not have it sticking out of the wall if I don't have to though....
