Any ideas on how to insulate a set of stairs that is between living space and a crawlspace? Basically, our house is a split level home, with the lowest level being on grade and built on a slab. there is a half set of stairs up to the next level, which is built over a 3 foot crawlspace. It is fairly drafty down to the lower level and I can feel air moving around the stairs. I can get behind the stairs from the crawlspace, but I don't know how I would fasten insulation to the stairs
Thanks

If you use faced insulation make sure the faced side is towards the heated area, that said you could staple the insulation to the underside of the steps, and surrounding interior wall area. Make sure it doesn't make contact with the crawlspace floor. I'd also be looking for any small holes or cracks that cold air could be coming into the house from around those steps, seal them with caulk or foam spray.

would you go horizontally with the treads or vertically with the stringers? The stairs are 47 inches wide, so I don't know what product would fit the best.

Either way will do the job required, I'd probably run the insulation from left to right with the treads this way you could cut the rolls into 48" long pieces, attach the ends at either stringer as well as some staples along the treads where possible.
