:?: I am having electrical interference problems with my televisions sets. I have 4 televisions hooked up into the house. Each TV is on a different electrical circuit in the house. All TV’s worked fine until a recent purchase of a LCD TV and a VCR/DVD Recorder. When I plug the LCD TV into an electrical outlet, I get very bad electrical interference on every TV in the house, but only on Channels 4 and 5. All other channels are fine. Even when no Antennae is hooked up, just plugging it in causes the problems to all of the other TV’s. I even took the TV back to the store and obtained another new one and it still does the same thing. When I pull the electric cord from the plug-in, all TV’s resume a normal picture. I also purchased a VCR/DVD Recorder. Again, when I plug this into an electrical socket, I again get severe electrical interference on ALL of the TV’s in the house and again only on Channels 4 and 5. However with my VCR when it is turned off (not unplugged) the interference clears up. If I’m taping Channel 4 or 5 and watching it on the TV at the same time, the interference is there while I’m watching it, but the interference is not on the taped show. But again, I don’t have to have any antennas’ hooked up to get the interference, just plugged into an electrical socket. Remember that all my 4 TV’s work fine without these two devices plugged in. I also just added some new fluorescent lights in my house, and they added to the interference problems, again only o Channels 3 and 4. My electrical circuit is properly grounded. Has anyone seen any problems like this or have any suggestions on what I can do?

What happens if you plug in a table lamp or boombox in that
receptacle? Does it still give you interference on the other TV's?
What other loads do you have on this circuit, try unplugging them
one -at -a-time.

I don't know if you have roof antenna, cable or satellite, but I
solved a similar problem in my house by properly grounding
my antenna mast and antenna cable. The antenna lead in cable
must be grounded using a grounding block near where it enters the
house. My lead in cable is grounded with #10 green wire back to the main panel.
This helps eliminate electric charge buildup. This particular solution
eliminated the "snow" observed on channels 2-5.

Several things....

1. please check this link, and tell me if any of the example pics closely resembles the interference you are experiencing

http://www.selfhelpandmore.com/interference/tv/index.htm

2. What is the source of your tv reception

a) outdoor antenna
b) indoor antena
c) cablevision
d) satellite service

3. any outdoor antenna / cablevision / satellite feed should go thru a grounding block (with the grounding block grounded as mentioned in the previous post).

4. Does your new LCD TV have a grounded (3 prong) plug. And if so, is the outlet in which you are pluging in to grounded. (make sure even though the outlet may be a grounded outlet - make sure the ground is actually connected and a working ground. If tghe LCD tv has only a 2 prong cord, is it a polarized cord ? (one wide prong / one narrow prong). if both prongs are the same size, try reversing the plug.

5. Disconnect the VCR / DVD (unplug and disconnect completely) now with the LCD tv only being used, does the interference occur on the other tv's ??

Ch 3 and 4 are often used for vcr rf outputs, if hooked up incorrectly, it may feed back into the system.

I know the appliances that are each causing interference.

1. One is an LCD TV in the back bathroom. Separate Circuit. When it’s plugged in a get interference that looks like FM radio or Radio Interfence from picture on web site.

2. Emerson VCR and DVD Recorder. This is plugged into front TV on same circuit. When it is on it gives interference to every TV on Channels 4 and 5. It looks like electrical interference. When not on, there is no interference.

3. I have some flourscenet fish lights on a different circuit (440 watts). It give off electrical interference only when on. To answer the other questions:

FROM GGRATECC:

What happens if you plug in a table lamp or boom box in that
receptacle?

NOTHING.

Does it still give you interference on the other TV's? NO.

What other loads do you have on this circuit, try unplugging them
one -at -a-time. ON THIS CIRCUIT I HAVE A VCR, WHEN IT IS TURNED OFF, THE INTERFERENCE GOES AWAY.

MY ANTENNA LEADS ARE NOT GROUNDED WITH A GROUNDING BLOCK.

FROM DKEER:

1. please check this link, and tell me if any of the example pics closely resembles the interference you are experiencing

http://www.selfhelpandmore.com/inter...e/tv/index.htm MOST LIKE ELECTRICAL OR RADIO INTERFERENCE.

2. What is the source of your TV reception

a) outdoor antenna
b) indoor antenna
c) cablevision
d) satellite service

ALL OF MY TV’S HAVE AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA AND ALSO DISH TV. THEY ARE CONNECTED TOGETHER BY RADIO SHACK AMPLIFIED SPLITTERS. I HAD NO INTERFERENCE BEFORE I INSTALLED THE ABOVE ELECTRONICS. (AGAIN, EACH ONE IS PRODUCING SOME TYPE OF INTERFERENC.

3. any outdoor antenna / cablevision / satellite feed should go thru a grounding block (with the grounding block grounded as mentioned in the previous post).

THAT HAS NOT BEEN DONE.

4. Does your new LCD TV have a grounded (3 prong) plug. And if so, is the outlet in which you are plugging in to grounded. (make sure even though the outlet may be a grounded outlet - make sure the ground is actually connected and a working ground. If the LCD TV has only a 2 prong cord, is it a polarized cord ? (one wide prong / one narrow prong). if both prongs are the same size, try reversing the plug.

LCD TV IS TWO PRONGED, BUT HAS A POLARIZED PLUG AND IS IN CORRECTLY.

5. Disconnect the VCR / DVD (unplug and disconnect completely) now with the LCD TV only being used, does the interference occur on the other TV’s ??

YES.

Ch 3 and 4 are often used for VCR rf outputs, if hooked up incorrectly, it may feed back into the system.

I AM USING. CHANNEL 3 FOR THE VCR RF OUTPUT.

ANY IDEAS, ESPECIALLY ON THE ELECTRONIC BALLASTS FOR THE FL. I TRIED WRAPPING ALUM FOIL, TO KNOW AVAIL. THE MANUF DIDN'T HAVE ANY GREAT IDEAS.

Sorry for the delay, have been busy...

I am a bit confused, in your 1st post you indicated

4. However with my VCR when it is turned off (not unplugged) the interference clears up

To an answer in a question in your 2nd post....
Disconnect the VCR / DVD (unplug and disconnect completely) now with the LCD TV only being used, does the interference occur on the other TV’s ??

Answer you gave: YES

Please clarify, just nailing down rather the vcr/dvd is the source ?

ALL OF MY TV’S HAVE AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA AND ALSO DISH TV. THEY ARE CONNECTED TOGETHER BY RADIO SHACK AMPLIFIED SPLITTERS. I HAD NO INTERFERENCE BEFORE I INSTALLED THE ABOVE ELECTRONICS. (AGAIN, EACH ONE IS PRODUCING SOME TYPE OF INTERFERENC.

How are you combining the antenna and dish tv feeds ? Amplified splitters usually split/amplify 1 incoming feed, although there are specialized combiners that can be gotten.

Unused outputs from the amplified splitter, are they terminated ??

Unused hooked up feeds from the splitter that end up elsewhere in the house but unused, are they terminated ?

Emerson's are one of the cheaper brands and may not have a lot of shielding, filtering.

All antenna feeds / dish feeds should be going thru a grounding block, grounded directly to the ground block of your electrical panel, which is likely the best ground in the house.

Where is the amplified splitter ? any splitting or amplification should be at the entrance to the home, the closest to the source as possible.

Filters are available for both rf and electrical, you can experiment with some commercially available filters, but make sure the item can be returned should it not solve your problem, ferite beads, coils can also often help kill interference.

Double check all cable conenctions, any that are not rg 6, replace with rg 6 if at all possible / accessable. Check all cable conenctors for being lose, poorly installed. Satellite cable should be rg 6, and for outside use be UV rated.

If the LCD TV is relocated, do you have the same problem ?

Blg, did you manage to fix this problem in the meanwhile ? If not, try this: if you look on your PC video cable you may see a round bulbus bit just before the end thats a ferrit core moulded into the lead to reduse interference.. great gadets .. NO NEED to spend loads of money on other solutions.
