Hi ya,

Is there ne1 out there who can help me?
whenever i shut my computer down i get an error message come up...

0167BFF7A1A5 (does that mean nething to neone?!)

and my PC doesnt shut down properly, and no amount of ctrl/alt/del, pushing the on/off button or screaming gets rid of it...so i have to turn it off at the mains...which means when i start it up it runs its little scandisk prog...which is annoying and i dont skip it just in case is does find something.

I tried other things such as defraging (which also doesnt work...gets to 3% then resets) but nothing seems to work...i heard it might have something to do with the registery?

There are other problems but i think they are all relating...can ne1 help?

Dave.

Give me the complete error message, exactly word for word.

Your operating system ??
CPU / memory ???

Does this only effects shut down ? Once up and running, does everything work normally ??

Also when did this start. Indicate everything that you have done on that computer from the last time it worked perfectly until now. installs / unintstalls , etc.

ok,

The problem has been going on for about a week now, i installed grokster but have uninstalled it a few days ago, the problem only occurs when i shut down, works fine when its up and running (buts its still annoying).

My operating system is windows 98 (second edition), CPU: GenuineIntel pentium(r) III processor, 320MB RAM, roughly 18GB HDD.

Strangely enough i have tried to get the error msg up again, but now when i shut it down its goes to the windows shutting down screen, the blue error screen flashes up then my monitor goes blank and the cpu starts continually beeping at me...is this good??

http://www.grokster.com/virusinformation.html

This article dated Jan / 2002 is indicating that the grokster installer had a virus on it, not sure if the version you used is the same, it also also has a link in this article to remove that virus. Take a look.

Do you have a good up to date anti-virus software on your computer, if you do, a full system scan may be wise, see what it may come up with.

I assume you uninstalled via the control panel - add / remove programs..

If windows 98 has a registry restore feature on it, try to restore the registry to a date prior to your orginal grokster install date. You may have to re-install anything that was installed after the restore date.

Report back on what you find.

i went to the link that you suggested, i installed grokster a long time after that...but thanks for the tip. I have sohpos installed in my machine and it runs a virus scan everytime i load up...hasnt found anything yet, and i believe its updated everytime i logon via the net.

i not sure how to use the registery, i can get it up but i cant see if it has a restore feature on it or not.

It is probably a really simple little thing that i cant figure out!
