Need help with a Briggs...armature

I have an older Briggs and Stratton 2 hp engine on a McLane edger. I replaced the armature coil per instructions, but there are 2 small wires coming out of the armature that seem to attach to the body of the engine with some type of glue or sealer. This is my first time replying in the "small engines" forum.
However, I have one of these McLane edgers with B&S 2 hp engine.

I have never replace the coil, so I don't know the answer to your question.
It appears to me these two wires are probably supposed to be
grounded to the engine block.

Maybe someone else knows about glue.
