Hello to all,

This is my first post to this forum. I am writing because I recently received a 1984 Toro 2-Stage snowblower from my father. It had only been run at infrequent intervals over the course of its life, so I figured I could get a few useful snow seasons out of it. I have got it running (by soaking the carb, changing the spark plug, etc.)and it really purred while at an idle. We got a significant amount of snow and I decided to try her out...Once the engine was warm, I backed off the choke and proceeded to "load" the engine by engaging the auger or the drive mechanism, and the engine cut out. It started right back up without a problem but the killed again as soon as I engaged the auger. I repeated this process for the next 15 minutes with the same result every time. So, I finished shoveling and now I am writing for help/feeback. I am not a small engine expert, so I don't really know where to start my troubleshooting. Does anyone have an idea or possible solution? Feedback would be appreciated. -A

You need to tell us the type engine and type carb you have to get deeper.

However if you got all out of the carb and cleaned right, check to see if you have an idle speed fuel adjustment screw and a high speed fuel adjustment screw on teh side or bottom of the carb. If you have both open the high speed fuel adjustment about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn to allow more fuel to feed the engine when put under load. May be as easy as that.

Good Luck

1984 isn't antque. I own a working 1968 TORO Snowpup.

Now to your problem. Did you check the auger and make sure it turns? Might be stuck and and just stalling the engine like a brake.
Do the wheels turn?

I just picked up a I think around 1974 toro. I will try adjusting the idle screws like you said before to see if I can get more performance.

My problem is the snow blower only throws about two feet. Is their a way to speed up the auger so it throws farther.
