89 Pontiac Firebird ignition

I have recently purchased an 89 Pontiac Firebird and it is missing the 2 plastic things that stick out and help you turn the key. I would like to just replace the ignition instead of repairing it. I know ther is a way that it will just slide out but im not sure how to do it and i need some help. thank you.

gotta drop the steering column on a GM to service the ignition switch/keyset. Security feature. I'd highly suggest getting a shop manual for this.
