I am thinking of buying a Honda model GX610K1QDF on line at a good price. I think it is 18 horsepower, but what do the other code letters mean?

Okay Let's break this down
GX610K1QDF.......GX610=MODEL...K1=YEAR{ex.K1=2001} .QDF=manufacturing codes from wharehouses, shippers,etc...unless you have some really major problems, the QDF part really isn't all that important:)

Although this is a very old post, the misinformation here really bothers me.
The little type code IS VERY IMPORTANT. It identifies the type of crank shaft, charging system; (if equipped), whether it is an electric start model, what the intended end product use is; (water pump, generator, general purpose engine, etc...)
It makes all the difference in getting the correct or incorrect replacement engine, not to mention parts.
Also the "K" series letter stands for the production run of the model, not the year. No "K" letter indicates the first model production run. "K1" is the second, "K2" the third, etc...
There are "K" series going back to 1964-65 on some models.
