I am looking for a good entry level, but accurate and durable, planer. Would anyone be able to give me some good advice?

Delta makes the TP305. This is a reliable, single-speed, 12 1/2 inch planer for 200$USA that you will get lots of years out of...

The only problem with this planer is that you will get significant snipe with it. If you can live with the snipe, it is a great bargain.

You can buy an upper-end planer with 2 speeds and cutterhead locks in the $500 USA range.

Watch the newstands for the woodworking magazines--they frequently have reviews of these tools.

I purchased Rigids 13-inch planer, and it has worked very well so far. Seems to be well built, simple, and durable. You will definitely want a vacuum hooked up to it, like a shop vac for example. Otherwise the wood shavings/chips get caught up underneath the cutting blades, making for a rough cut.
The planer is about $350, if i remember right.
