I'm getting a shower installed in a basement bathroom. Currently only roughed in for a shower (was only a half bath before). I can either pay the (massive!) overhead to the plumber to have him supply the shower and fixtures or buy them myself and save a lot of money. Plumber will supply a Lasco shower (#1483-2P), comes in three pieces to easily fit down cellar stairs. I can get this myself at Home Depot, just wondering if it is a good sturdy shower or not. They don't have any in stock right now so I can't check it out myself. Any other brand suggestions welcomed. Must come in pieces because getting it down there will be tight.

I will be using this shower (don't laugh!) mostly for the dogs, so it must be sturdy. Also, any things I should ask the plumber as far as how he'll install? As per the previous thread I am *assuming* he will set base in mortar, I suppose this would be the first thing to ask about. Sorry, know this is a 'self' help forum but too many fish to fry right now to install this myself. Desperately trying to get the basement done by Christmas time and there's just too much left to do.

Lasco, Sterling, Mustee are all good products that hold up over the test of time in installs. Just remember that setting the base in mortar is crucial, and setting the base level along with the perimeter walls are crucial.
