1. the system did time out. I may have pick up a resend from the wrong user page and sent to a few users twice.
2. If you ever posted back when we were running phpbb2 software, when the old threads were imported that user name would have come in as imported_mrT, or whatever user name you used back then, causing 2 sends to the same email. If this is true let me know

Yea, i was around back in the dark ages.
So, when are you going to clean out your user base then?

I believe on the newsletter somewhere it tells you your user name, keep the one you are using now and tell me any previous user names, and I will go to that user profile and disable (uncheck) the subscription to the newsletter. So that you don't get duplicate news letters because you are listed more than once with the same email in the user base.
When I was importing the old database threads, I forgot to check off update user name matches, and I can't run it again as I don't want 2000 to 3000 dublicate threads coming in that have already been imported. So what the importing routine did was if there was an exact match with a user name from the old system and the current system, it would had the word imported to the begining of the user name from a thread/post being imported, so that for example we may have wgoodrich and imported_wgoodrich which would cause 2 newsletters to be received. Then you may have people that changed there user name over the years and end up with 2 newsletters going to the same email. But that I believe can only happen with an imported user name.
You can log on with the old user name once and uncheck the subscription or I can do it for you, send me a private message with the old unused username and I can do it for you. So that you only receive one copy of any newsletters.

I put in a bogus email address for Tom L., as well as for imported_wgoodrich, will likely need to do that also for myself. So hopefully thatwill stop your duplicate newsletter.

Also note, that it will be nice to see some people back that have years ago posted to the old version of our forums, and now because of thew newsletter may come back and revisit us and perhaps stay with us again. Our site forum software has changed from way back when, as well as our domain names. So it will be a welcome sight to see some of these people back with us again.

Just going thru some of the emails I have gotten that want to be off the newsletter send. 90 % of email I get sent to webmaster, is junk mail, the next 8 % is personal requests for help, which I rarely answer as that is what the forums are for. That leaves about 2 % which may it lost in all the other garbage that I receive. One person asking to GET OFF THE LIST or they were report it. Never heard of such a thing as email / newsletter police out there.
I actually seriously thinking of removing the contact us from the sites, or at least the way they are used. That way I don't get for starts all the junk mail. Not sure of the future of the newsletter or expansion into other purposes of the newsletters. I think it may have already have served its purpose, and has brought back perhaps some of the people from way back when.

I think I will stop for now the newsleter. I think it has already served it purpose of going after some people back from way back when ...
The plugin for the newsletter was installed prior to the importing of threads from the old phpbb2 database, and therefore for those users that were imported from the old database may not have a check mark in their profile to unsubcribe, people that registered directly on the vbulletin would have the unsubscribe in their profile. Also the plugin defaulted to all user subscribed. I would prefer a system that users subscribe or unsubscribe and not automatically get the newsletter unless they first subscribe themselves. I think that is a better system, keeps everyone happier I think. Although as I said as a result of everyone defaulting to subscribe we may have got some of our old users back.
I am going to work on this contact us routines to see if I can cut the huge amount of garbage email that seems to pass thru (email robots that scan sites to obtain email addresses) without actually cutting all contact to us.
