View Full Version : How to vent the sump pump hole?

I have a sump hole that emits a sewer gas oder during dry weather. The hole has water in it and fresh water is pumped into this hole from time to time. The design of the hole and the use of a pedistal pump makes it almost impossible to seal so the gas can't escape. When the furnace or AC runs it pulls this smell through the house. I was wondering if I could run a vent pipe to the existing plumbing vent pipe or should I run it seperate? What size pipe should I use and should I use an inline blower to draw the gas up the pipe?

I would replace the pedestal sump pump with a submersible sump pump, buy a lid that you can seal the pit to avoid the smells. I haven't seen too many pedestal pumps that last any significant time versus submersible.
