My house is 30 yrs old. I am taking down a pine tree that is about 2 to 3 feet downstream from the d-box (depth about 18 to 24"). I would like to stump grind 6" below surface. Should I stump grind 3" below surface?? I am afraid I might disturb the existing pipes with the vibration.

Thanks,
Enrique

Before you do anything get a stiff steel rod and probe the earth. This rod should be about the size of a pencil and stiff about 5' long. It will shove into the earth and you should be able to feel your D box and pipes to find how deep they are. If you have no rod then shovel carefully to expose your D box and pipes to find their depth. Then you will know how deep they are and how safe you are with your stump saw.

The vibration should not hurt your system. Just make sure you don't cut into the pipes and you should be fine to grind the stump below the finished grade.

Good Luck
