For the past 24 hrs, we noticed that our well pump was turning on every ten-twenty minutes with no water running. Last night, we noticed water coming from the ground up outside of the house as the well pump turned on (off at 60 psi). I turned off the pump last night (I hope I did the right thing). This morning I turned the pump on and went up to 20 psi (first five minutes)then started to decrease to 0 and has not gained pressure since. Therefore there is no water in the house.
I would like to educate myself prior to talking to a well service professional. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a leak somewhere out in the suction line of your pump. Shutting off the pump last night was a good idea; what happened to you today is that you lost prime.

If you have a foot valve on your system, this indicates that you pressurize the line back to the foot valve when the pump switch cuts off. You will have to locate the leak and fix the problem. Do you know what type of piping it is to the well?

Yeah, it was a leak allright. It was fixed this morning. I told my wife to take pics. I hope the pics tell a thousand words.
Everything is back to normal. Thanks.
