We have decided to switch from electric to a gas stove. I have pulled the stove out, disconnected the wiring and now have a question regarding wiring a 120v circuit for the new stove.
The current 220v wiring has the following configuration:
one red
one white
one black
The new Square D box has a single throw 220v breaker.
Any advice on how to convert this to 120v would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Converting a 50 amp 220 volt range branch circuit to a 120 volt 20 amp branch circuit is not the safest, easiest, best method of getting a 120 volt 20 amp receptacle to power an ignitor system for your gas range.
I suggest you blank plate the older range circuit for future electric range possible or just retire it from the service panel. I suggest you find the nearest 120 volt 20 amp receptacle or power source to provide a 20 amp 120 volt branch circuit extension.
Often times you have a range hood above the range that is 120 volt. If you range is against an inside wall it would be fastest and easiest to fish a wire down that empty wall from the range hood and install a recessed remodel 120 volt receptacle box with a receptacle and plate.
Converting a 50 amp larger wire to a light load such as you are thinking is an open invitation for the next owner to mistake it and install a big breaker again for a 50 amp breaker because they see that largeer 50 amp wire thinking someone didn't know what they were doing. It can be done but advise the above alternative for best safety of all concerned.
HOpe this helps
