View Full Version : Replacing old wiring via attic

I own a two story home that has the tube and knob type wiring through out the second floor. I've already run power to a circuit breaker panel box in a utility closet and am proceeding to run the new wire from there. Do I need to protect the wire once it is in the attic? I'm unsure whether I can just run the wire over the ceiling joists and fiberglass insulation or do I have to drill a hole through each joist to accomodate the wiring.

Thank you in advance,

Nonmetallic Sheathed cable [aka Romex] may be ran inside walls, in attics and in crawl spaces without further protection other than the plastic sheathing containing the black white and bare conductors installed inside this plastic sheathing.

Good Luck
