Hi, please help me fix this myself, lol. We are in Ontario and our house is 30+ years old. My husband installed a new light fixture in the kitchen to replace an outdated (ugly) fixture and when we (he) turned the power back on and switched the light ON, the fuse blew. He did some changes to the wires connecting the light fixture and blew another fuse. So .. he figured that something was wrong with the SWITCH and changed that .. another fuse blew. Three or four hours later, after "HIM" doing numerous adjustments and "blowing" at least a dozen fuses, we have a beautiful new light fixture installed but "unwired" because HE gave up.

HE told me that the (3) wires in the ceiling are white, black and red and that the (2) wires in the wall for the switch are red and black.

I have printed off your instructions re Basic Light/Switch as I want to "do it myself", vbg but I, while being extremely "handy", like to make sure I know what I am doing because I don't need any "static" if things go wrong, lol.

So....... I think I should wire the black and white "live" wires coming from the ceiling to my fixture and ground the red one. It is the "switch" part that I am not clear about. Seems that both the black and red should be connected to the switch box (one live and one ground (red)) but should there be a white wire coming from the wall that I have to deal with?

I would really appreciate your help.

Linda it sounds like a man woman thing. Remember I am a man and must be loyal to the man side. Sorry Can't Help you being on the woman side would be a violation of the society of illogical men. Ha Ha just kidding !!!

The black and red wires going to your switch tells the big thing.

Connect all white wires including the white wire of the light fixture all together under a wire nut in the light box.

Connect all the black wires [but not the black wire of the light fixture] together under a wire nut.

Connect the red wire to the black wire of the light fixture.

Remember this is a national secret. Don't tell any of the society of illogical man kind of my counter activity collborating with you, might affect my standings amoung men ya know. Ha Ha. Never know he may even forgive me over time.

Let us know if it works and have him take you out to dinner if it works.

Good Luck

THAT does not put me in a better light in the eyes of our illogical men society pertaining to my show of loyalty, ya know. Now I risk a demotion in our elite society of men.

Love hearing the reports of success though. Tell him to ask on our forum before he gives up on his next challenge, then you can cook supper again when he is successful. Ho ho !!

Congrats
