Our Main panel (located outside under patio) has nearly every knockout filled by a seperate piece of counduit. I have to take some down as the previouse contractor didn't put a right angle from the counduit going into the house (picture counduit going up the side of the house, stopping and romex exposed going into hole drilled into side of house). I would like to consolidate the spider wed of coundit in my patio and jsut have one or two large (maybe 2 inch) conduits running up the side of the house and into the crawl spce. The large pipes wold contain probably 5 to 7 circuits each (AC, sub, electric dryer, various 15 amp lines).

Is this okay/legal/safe????

Thanks

What you have seems legal safe as long as the ends of those conduits are with a conduit connector to protect from cutting the cables. The Romex meets Code, is allowed to be surface wired if not subject to physical damage. Why not leave it as is and install a couple of studs up the side of the panel to the ceiling then installing plywood or other type approved sheathing creating an enclosed wall. Then you could remove the conduits and use romex connectors to secure to the panel box.

Just thinking

I thought about that but the wall behind the main panel is brick. I have 5 conduits comming out of the box from 3 sides (Meter is on the left) and most of it was not done with any sort of care - bad bends no paint etc, etc. I was thinking I would need to address the exposed romex before the inspector comes out for the sub panel (thanks for the help on that by the way :D ) and I could make it just plain look nicer. Its on our back patio right behind the patio furniture and just kinda bugs me. But if its not a code violation (it is prolly about 10 feet from the floor where exposure is) then I guess I should just leave well enough alone.

Thanks!

What I'm reading are you saying? Romex exposed to outside? or is this UF cable? My belief romex not to be exposed to outside.? sunlight resistant.

I am taking this to be a patio under roof sheilded from rain and sun. I read nothing about weatherproof panel leading me to believe this to be a protected area.

Just my thoughts
