Changing from gas to electric radiant stovetop. New stovetop has red-white-black-copper wires but existing house wiring only has black-white-copper. Can I wire the red on the stove to either the black or white from the house? I have 230/115 measured volts from the source. And I know to trip the circuit breaker before I start my project....thanks :

Sorry Your stove top having a red black white and bare or green wire tells us that your appliance uses 120 volt components inside the appliance. This requires an insulated white neutral wire that your existing branch circuit does not have.

Code requires you never to use a bare or green wire as a current carrying neutral substitute. This means you will be required to install a new branch circuit with a black red white and bare or green wire in that cable.

Hope this helps
