Does anybody have any recommendations regarding brands, sizes, etc etc etc.....
I am looking to put one in my home, (approximately 1900 sq ft)
single story, cinderblock. It retains tons of heat in the attic and
the cinderblock does as well.
My home is surrounded by two story homes so I get very little of the cool hawaiian breezes that are outside.
talk to me, you have my full attention! steve

If your house was properly built it should have vents low and vents high in your attic and / or soffit areas. Then there should be a clear chase of air flow from both high and low vents even allowing air flow in cathedral roof / rafter designs. Remember heat rises. This in mind the vents low will take in air being cooler outside air. Then this air intake will gravity rise due to being hot air above in attic with the heat seeks cold affect. Then the hot air with cooler air entering from the low vents will escape out the high vents into the outside thus exhausting the heat and moisture.
If you have no shade to break the heat and you have a black roof obsorbing heat then that discribed above may not be enough.
Problem with whole house fans is the same affect. If air is sucked out of the living area into the attic then air must be sucked into the house from the outside that may be hot air. This would counter act your air conditioning inside the house. Whole house fans are not for air conditioned living areas due to the above explained.
If no air conditioning then whole house fan fine.
Attic fans may be used installed high in the attic by the roof vents to augment the air flow in that attic to help suck in more cooler air and pushing hot attic air out the roof vents if you have air conditioned living area inside home.
Brand does not matter. Proper controllers of the type fans installed is important and cubic feet per minute ratings is most important. Size the CFM to match your needs.
Hope this spurs thought
