please help!
Some rooms in my home will completely lose power while others will stay on. Flipping the breaker switches seems to be a temporary solution, the lights will dim shortly after and lose all power again. My fuses are fine ... what could be the problem?

You have asked a very big question.
There are so many possible reasons for your circuit breakers to trip open. Your question leads me to believe that you are unfamiliar with electrical issues. Some of the reasons for the failure could be dangerous, and you should call an electrician.

I agree with Ron, I suspect you have a hazard of a loose connection when you are speaking of dimming of lights then losing the lights all together. Turning off then on the breaker can cause a surge enough to possibly augment a connection to happen again for the lights to work a bit longer then you experience it again. This normally is telling you somewhere on that circuit a connection is frying and overheating.
What year was your wiring installed? If in the 70s suspect back stabbed receptacles with failing connections frying in the receptacle boxes. This seems to be a problem that shows often in this forum with that era of wiring.
Be careful and be concerned
