Dual water heaters

I want to install two 50 gallon HW heaters with a hot water return. What are the respective merits of parallel or series connection?[/b]

I have seen both installed but to say one is better than the other considering parallel or series I have little experience in helping you with the pros and cons. Hopefully someone out there is used to doing this and can shed better light on your quest.

Are you saying you want to hook them up so one will empty hot water into the other that is providing hot water to the house? You would have a longer supply of hot water that way, but also this would draw more N gas from your lines, and your first heater would run more than the one sending your hot water through out the house, because of it taking in the cold water. Would you put a tea junction on the exaust pipe going to your chimminy? I would have two seperate exaust lines for safty. You may need two gas lines in order to have good pressure to run them both, instead of a tea, unless you have black pipe. Better check on your do's and don'ts first. Safty first!

To obtain adequate draw from heaters, pipe the connection into heater level. Center tee in center of both heaters.


This will give a balance to keep one heater from drawing more than another.

Keep thermostats identical in temperature along with cold water inlet configurations of piping.
