:oops: Sorry but I posted this to the wrong forum so you might see it twice. My question is this: I recently bought an AC for my work shop and the flimsy little filter that came with doesn't work very well. My question is if it would be ok to make a frame for a better on that would attach to the unit to provide better filtering? I know that they need a certain amount of airflow but I was just going to use one of those fiberglass furnace filters that have a pretty good airflow. THANKS!
I really appreciate this site! :D

I assume you mean a window or thru wall a/c. The filter that came with it should be fine. If you want to know effect a different filter will have, try this...
Make sure the original filter is clean. Run the unit for 5 or ten minutes. Check the temperature of the air going into the unit and coming out. Record the difference{20 deg. farenheit is about normal,although some window types run colder.}
Install the new filter, and take the same temp. readings.
You should have about the same #. If it runs more than about 2 or so degress colder, then I would stick with the factory filter.
Excessively restricting the airflow can cause compressor damage.
Which is a good reason to keep your filters clean.

:D Thanks, that's a really good tip about the temp! I wound up buying a better filter made for my AC instead of rigging up an alternate, it's working well. I guess the main thing is to keep it clean. THANKS!
