Just bought an onyx shower pan and the shop did not provide any instructions for do it yourselfers. Can someone please provide some info on how to install this shower pan? I am OK on the drain.
My main questions are: 1) Can I install the shower pan directly onto the subfloor (which is 2"x6" tongue and groove) or do I need any type of underlayment? and 2) What type of adhesive should be used to attach the shower pan to the floor? In other words, should onyx shower pan be set in mortar and if so, what type (e.g., thin set?). Or should I simply use a glue or adhesive such as silicone, in place of mortar? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

YOu should use the same type adhesive you would use to mount a ceramic vanity top to a vanity in a bathroom. All you have is a great big vanity top being used as a shower base. Mark out the base that will contact with the sub floor. Be sure all points of that base meets the floor support evenly to avoid cracking and breaking of this base due to an area of that base not being supported. Once you have all points level and solid to the base the remove the base marked out the contact area. Install the same type adhesive you use for a ceramic vanity top using a good bead of the adhesive. Then set carefully the base onto the adhisive and press it all down evenly making sure all is level. Let set about 48 hours to ensure curring of adhesive.

Hope this helps
