I have to wire an oven/stovetop.The wires coming out of it are red/black/whit and a ground.
I know red to red, black to blak, ground to ground, but what about the white wire?Does that go to ground too?The wires from the panel are red, black ground...no white.

As long as that unit does not require a neutral(aka white)You only need to run a 2 wire cable W/ground. Just ID the White wire with either black tape or majic marker and use as your second leg of that 240V circuit. Size according to oven load. If you already bought the 3 wire W/grnd, then just cap off the white on both ends and do as you said. GL2U

the oven is about 10 years old,and has no internal lamp, and the old style clock, timer.(dials)
Is it a hazard to have the white wire from the oven go to ground?
I cannot find any documentation on it.

If you live in Canada you will have to run a new branch circuit with a black, red, white, bare.
If you live in USA then the NEC allows the wire you have black, red, bare to be used if a service entrance cable. If the bare wire is wrapping around the black and red wire then you have an SE cable with black red and bare wire allowing you to connect red to red and black to black and white and green and bares all together as an existing branch circuit.
Be aware that you must install a black, red, white and bare if installing a new branch circuit.
The rule I am taking about is for existing only.
Good Luck

ok.I checked the continuity from the bare to white, and there was none.

Why did you do that? When you wire nut that white and green of that appliance to that one bare wire of the branch circuit SE cable then won't it then have infinite continuity? The bare wire in the SE cable will be serving as both the neutral and the equipment grounding conductor to that white and green wire of the range.
Hope this helps
