Dishwasher water smells foul

just recently the water in my dishwasher has a rotten smell. i am assuming it's standing water from a previous wash. we don't use it too often. what could be the problem? this dishwasher also doesn't have a relief valve i have seen on other models at the sink faucet. thank you

Don't believe you need a relief valve

I am suspecting your anode rod has went bad in your water heater and you are smelling of rotten eggs due to sulfer.

If you do not have a water softener I would buy a water softner after you have tested your water samples. Then replace your anode rod in your water heater. This should correct your problem.
