We have this big old chandelier with 12 fixtures for light bulbs and them glass hurricane covers that i would like to get rid of. i get really sick of changing the silly light bulbs and cleaning the glass hurricane things. it is nice, but just not my style and too much maintence. The thing is hardwired into the ceiling, so i don't really know how to go about removing it or what to do with it if/when i get it out of there. Are there lighting professionals out there that would remove it and take it away for me? looks pretty heavy, so i doubt i can do this by myself. Besides, i am pretty clumsy and would probably drop it.

Take a long step ladder that will reach just under the light. Set the light on the top of the step ladder. If you wish more stability take a second person with a long 2 x 4. Tape the 2 x 4 to the base of the light fixture to help steady and support it sitting on the top of the step ladder. Take a rope and tie it to the light fixture. Drap the rope over the top of the step ladder for later leaving the rest of the rope hang to the floor with some extra rope available on the floor for later. Drop the cone of the light fuxture. You should find two or three wires under the ceiling cone of the fixture. BE sure power is off and cut those wire then let the light down until it is supported by the rope. Have the person below let the rope down as you walk the light down to ground level.
Hope this helps
