:?: Just want to make sure on my dryer connection that the two side wires make no difference which way they are hooked up as long as the center wire is connected to the white wire and the green ground. I bought a new dryer with a 4 prong and my outlet is 3 prong. The guy at Lowes just said to put the center wire of the all solid gray cord in the middle connector (which is white) but I am a little worried about plugging it in and checking. Would hate to burn my house down.

Read this article from our homewiringandmore site, it explains the use of 3 wire or 4 wire dryer cables as well the wiring config of the receptacle.
