My gas fired boiler broke during a nasty coldspell. The heating contractor had extreme difficulty isolating /fixing it. In an emergency could I use my hotwater heater to run my baseboard for 24 to 48hrs. If yes, would I need to use a smaller circulator pump ?

Water heater and boiler are normally separate items. What you are thinking of is much like having a 6 year old carry your bars of gold to the bank. Doubt that water heater could heat just one room as you discribe. Way too light of heating capacity for what is being asked of that water heater. YOu best emergency heat source would be a kerosene heater or electric heaters plugged in each room on different circuits.
Sorry
