Venting

I am completely renovating my house and installing all new plumbing. Currently I do not have any waste vents. The problem is my exterior and interior walls are only 2 X 4's. What size venting can I use? Should I box in a waste vent somewhere next to a wall? Also, can I have separate waste vent for the bathroom and one for the kitchen? they are about 20 feet away.

You should be able to easily install 2" vent stacks to the attic from your bathroom then you kitchen then join them before you go through your roof. Don't forget to go to 3" to go through the roof to protect from freezing when the air hits the atmosphere. The 3" going through the roof can be only a couple of feet long just protecting your vents from ever freezing as required by Code.

2" Vent lines within 2x4 walls would be very tricky, and I think the holes would exceed that allowed for even non-loadbearing walls (2.1" is 60% of 3.5"). I was thinking about this same setup in my basement bath.

For me, I could use 1.5" vents, but for a whole house, I don't think that is adequate.

The 1 1/2" or even 1 1/4 for a bathroom grouping should be fine up the wall into attic as a vent.

You may join more than one vent from different groupings together to the 2" vent in attic within the IRC rules.

Be sure to increase to 3" going through the roof if in a freezing area.

You are correct in the 60% top plate or studs in a nonbearing wall.
