Hello all,

I need some help with wiring two telephone lines in three rooms.

SUMMARY:

Room 1 has its own number, Room 2 and 3 have the SAME number.

Originally Room 1 and Room 3 had the same number. I went in and swapped the wires in
Room 1 and Room 2.

PROBLEM:

All phones work. However, Room 2 CAN'T connect to the internet but Room 3 can. When Room 3 connects to the internet, Room 1 gets static.

Been working on this for two days. Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Sounds like you have some wires crossed.

If you have a four wire phone cable in your home and If you wired it correctly your red and black should be one line and yellow and green should be the second number. The phone jack should only have a black and red or a green and yellow wire connected. Problem is the green and yellow need to be on the black and red screws in the second phone line rooms. If you have done as discribed then in line 2 reverse green and yellow to see if tip and ringer is reversed.

Let us know if this helps

Uh? WG,

We must be in different parts of the country, in California and here in Missouri, I've always used red/green as one pair and yellow/black as the other.

I'm not saying that you are wrong, just that I have had different experiences.

not to ruffle feathers but line 1 should be red/green, line 2 yellow/black.

i didn't learn this until this past year when i went into the Security and Fire alarm industry.

I beleive your right. But even if off standard on a regular non-twisted cable, any 2 wires will technicly work, but I beleive your pairs are standard. When it comes to twisted sets of pairs within a cable. You should always use the same twisted pair set as this will min. interference.

Good point about twisted pairs you dont what to cross them up.
and it's best to use red/green, yellow/black standard for trouble shooting reasons.
