Toilet Flange Height

OK, now that I've the sewage ejector planned out, I decided to start the actual work by finishing the rough-in for the toilet and sink drains. I had planned on chiseling the cement floor around the stubs so that my new fittings (closet flange for toilet, 45 deg elbow for sink drain to go into wall) would be cemented as low as possible. What I found is that the stub of piping coming up through the floor only goes down about 1/8" or so before the hun of the downstream fitting begins. For the sink, I can live with this, but for the toilet, it appears that I cannot get the hub of the toilet flange low enough into the cement so that the top side is at the proper height - it will protrude above the floor.

Doesn't seem like chiseling down and cutting off the closet bend hub is a smart move. Is that the only way to do this right? Any other suggestions? I really don't want to build a platform for the toilet.

With the pipe already set under the cement the only proper way to lower the connection would be to dig below the whole pipe. Then you may experience not enough fall of that pipe into the sewage pit.

Sounds like you need an elevated bathroom floor built or at least an elevated area for the stool as a platform.

Sounds like they didn't rough in your sewage pit inlet deep enough to maintain proper fall of your sewage pipe to keep the pipe from running up hill to the sewage pit outlet and they made your flange to be too high to compensate for the high sewage pit inlet.

I've been doing some thinking about this and what I really need is a toilet flange that connects on the INSIDE of 3" Sch 30 drainpipe. Does anybody know of such a thing?

The flange I bought goes on the outside of 3" sch 30. Most go on the outside of 3", inside of 4" sch 40. Home Depot has a flange that goes on the inside of 3" Sch 40, but I don't think this would work for Sch 30.

If I could find such an animal, I think I would be in good shape.

Ideally the flange sits flush with the finished floor. What is the range of acceptable heights: is +/- 0.25" close enough? If I plan on commercial carpet and pad as the finish flooring, that would add a little height, but not much as it will compress.

Not sure exact lift from seat of toilet from floor. Toilet should be set directly to floor not on carpet.

There may be an adapter that will reduce the inside diameter of sch 30 to sch 40 ID. Just a thought

After many phone calls to plumbing supply shops and some internet searching, I was able to find a toilet flange that installs INSIDE 3" schedule 30 drain pipe. Many of the plumbing supply places I called in metro Detroit said there was no such thing, others heard of them but didn't carry any, although they get lots of calls for such a flange.

I found a flange made expressly for this purpose by J-Tech Prodcuts Co. They also have one for 4" pipes. If anyone is interested, here is a link. They will UPS units to consumers.
